Ingredients

1 Cup (90g) Porridge Oats
1 1/4 Cups (310ml) Milk Either whole (full fat) or skim
1 Banana Sliced (Optional)
1 1/2 teaspoons Brown Sugar (Optional)
1 Tablespoon Shelled Pistachios Roughly chopped (Optional)

Porridge is a fantastic breakfast option.  It high in fibre and protein and its slow release energy means it will keep you full for longer.

This is a very basic recipe.  Perhaps surprisingly, there is quite a lot written about porridge and the way it should properly be made. Traditionalists insist that it should be made only with oats, water and salt but for many (me included!), it is not proper breakfast fare unless made with milk and topped with a generous sprinkling of sugar.  Although I am quite a salt fiend and put it on most things, I don’t feel the need to add it to porridge. I have listed some topping options at the end of the recipe.  My all time favourite is brown sugar, sliced banana and a little cinnamon.

  1. Put the porridge oats and milk into a small pot over a medium heat.
  2. Bring the porridge to a boil and boil for 1 minute while stirring.
  3. Serve straight away topped with your favourite toppings.
